Position Overview:
The City of Richmond's Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities seeks a skilled Recreation Services Supervisor to oversee Therapeutic Recreation Services. This role involves developing and managing therapeutic recreation programs catering to individuals with disabilities in Richmond. The incumbent will promote inclusive recreation across the department, overseeing program modifications, training, and resource provisions for staff and programs.
Responsibilities Include:
Supervision: Recruitment, training, and supervision of full-time, temporary staff, interns, with goal-setting, performance evaluations, and development.
Budget and Financials: Recommendation and management of annual program budgets, grant applications, and proposals to support TR services programs and inclusion.
Programming: Planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating TR programs and events for individuals with disabilities. Researching community needs and identifying program opportunities.
Training: Developing and facilitating training sessions for departmental staff on disability, accessibility, and inclusion topics.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Extensive experience in Therapeutic Recreation and community-based services for individuals with disabilities.
- Proficiency in adaptive equipment, program modification strategies, and local resources supporting the disability community.
- Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage complex issues, work with stakeholders, and deliver effective training.
Specific Knowledge and Skills:
- Therapeutic Recreation program administration and management.
- Inclusive recreation best practices and principles.
- Understanding of various disability diagnoses and medical trends.
- Principles of universal program design and behavior support.
- Budget development and effective training facilitation.
Minimum Training and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in Therapeutic Recreation delivery in a community or recreation setting.
- 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Current Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification.
Licensing, Certifications, and Requirements:
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
- First Aid / CPR / AED certification.
- Valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days of hire.
