Clinical Nurse I:
- Integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet patient and family needs.
- Assists healthcare team in illness/injury prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort provision.
- Provides direction, education, and begins acquiring leadership skills at the unit level.
- Delivers and documents direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and multidisciplinary care plans.
- Safely administers prescribed medications.
Clinical Nurse II:
- Demonstrates mastery of clinical skills, applies knowledge to a specific patient population.
- Assists healthcare team in illness/injury prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort provision.
- Recognizes changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately.
- Mobilizes resources for individualized patient/family needs.
- Provides direction, education, assumes leadership responsibilities at the unit level.
- Delivers and documents direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and care plans.
- Safely administers prescribed medications.
Clinical Nurse III:
- Demonstrates clinical knowledge at the unit level, applying it to a specific patient population.
- Assists healthcare team in illness/injury prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort provision.
- Anticipates changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately.
- Provides direction, education, and serves as a role model in a clinical setting.
- Delivers and documents direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and care plans.
- Safely administers prescribed medications.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements:
- Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible/compact state for Clin I, Clin II, Clin III.
- AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent for continued employment.
Experience:
- Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience
- Clin III: 3 years of clinical experience
- Preference for LPN, nursing assistant, care partner experience (Clin I), academic health care experience (Clin II, Clin III), and similar patient population exposure in acute care or applicable practice area (Clin II, Clin III).
Education/Training:
- Diploma or Associates Degree (Clin I, Clin II, Clin III)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or higher within specific timeframes unless grandfathered under previous requirements (Clin I, Clin II, Clin III)
- Certification in specialty area for Clin III
Requirements:
- Practice within regulations governing nursing in Virginia.
- Guided by ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing and established national nursing practice standards.
- Follow VCUHS policies and procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities (if applicable):
- Organizes work, delegates, and supervises others in carrying out assignments.
Additional Position Requirements:
- Work across shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Serve appropriate age-specific groups based on unit assignment.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Physical: Lifting 20-50 lbs, exposure to potentially hazardous substances, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, walking, climbing, reaching.
- Mental: Strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking, writing, reading, logical thinking.
- Emotional: Adaptability to pace, handling multiple priorities, frequent customer interactions in a fast-paced environment.
