The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is seeking an experienced, customer service-driven retail professional to join the Museum Shop team as a Sales Floor Supervisor. We are an inclusive workplace that values teamwork and professionalism.
Hour Requirements:
The Sales Floor Supervisor (SFS) is a part-time, non-exempt position without benefits scheduled to work a minimum of 3 shifts a week and up to 1,450 hours annually (May 1-April 30).
Duties Include:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, and the public, demonstrating inclusive behaviors.
- Supervise sales floor operations, including monitoring customer flow, scheduling register changeovers and employee break times.
- Encourage communication between staff by updating internal communication boards and following up on sales goals and announcements.
- Multitask in a fast-paced environment and maintain self-motivation throughout the day.
- Ensure proper cash handling with minimal errors, close the store, pull reports, reset change bag, and prepare deposits.
- Work with shop volunteers on customer service training and delegate projects during their shifts.
- Partner with management to prepare for annual inventory.
- Promote proper loss prevention techniques and report shrink immediately to upper management.
- Ensure a safe and ADA-compliant sales floor for customers and employees.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3 years of retail or customer service experience.
- Excellent customer service skills and a welcoming demeanor.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Operate calmly and professionally in a high-pressure environment.
- Read, write, comprehend and follow directions and instructions.
- Finger and hand dexterity; ability to reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear; and lift or move up to 50 pounds; able to stand or walk for up to 10 hours.
- Minimum of 3 shifts a week with availability for nights, weekends, and holidays.
Additional Considerations:
- 1 year of retail management or equivalent supervisory experience.
- Counterpoint software experience.
