The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) supports an inclusive and diverse employee community. We are currently seeking composed and attentive individuals to join our Security Services Department as Security Escort Associates. Security Escort Associate is an ideal position for people who enjoy working in a creative environment with strong community outreach. Security Escort Associates support the museum’s public safety and property protection programs by guiding contracted workers and other visitors as needed, to and from jobsites and other designated areas on the museum’s campus. They also manage communication between contractors and VMFA’s staff and maintain required documentation of activities. Security Escort Associates will provide clerical support to the Department of Security Services on an as-needed basis.
This position currently has funding for approximately 24 months from the hire date.
Working Hours:
- Security Escort Associates must have open availability including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Work hours are primarily between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m or 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge of customer service principles, practices, and methods.
- Some knowledge of applicable laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to the responsibilities and professional conduct of unarmed security officers.
- Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of loss prevention programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and written.
- Ability to articulate specific security information and prepare reports.
- Ability to apply mature judgments that contribute to agency goals.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to quickly learn and use various computer applications.
- Ability to be prompt and punctual to scheduled shifts.
- Ability to stand or walk for up to 10 hours.
- Flexible availability to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior security experience in museums, galleries, fine retail services, or the hospitality industry.
- Prior security escort experience.
Special Requirements:
- Selected candidates must pass a criminal history background check.
Designated / Essential Staff:
- This position may be required to perform other duties related to security, safety, and health as assigned (i.e., training).
- This position may be required to assist the museum or state government during inclement weather or in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor or the Director of the Museum.
