Description


The City of Richmond Department of Justice Services is seeking highly qualified candidates to fill the position of Social Casework Coordinator at the Adult Day Reporting Center (DRC). The DRC is an alternative to incarceration program designed to divert individuals from jail into a community alternative, while maintaining public safety through recidivism reduction. The goals are to effectively supervise and treat individuals assessed as medium and high risk of re-offending by addressing identified criminogenic risks and needs and to ensure coordination and continuity of clinical care. The incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing treatment plans, working closely with local judges, commonwealth’s attorney, public/defense counsel, jail administrator, local/state probation and parole and community partners.

Duties include but are not limited to

 

  • Administering actuarial-based risk/need assessments e.g. LSI, COMPASS or OST
  • Collaborating with the client in the development of treatment plans
  • Conducting regular supervision meeting with clients to discuss progress of treatment plans
  • Facilitating cognitive behavioral intervention tools to support behavior change and skill development
  • Conducting weekly groups for clients
  • Interacting frequently with clinicians, peer support and community partners to ensure client treatment compliance
  • Preparing and providing written and verbal testimony to the courts to include status and violation reports
  • Conducting random urine screens
  • Addressing non-compliance issues immediately and carrying out swift client disciplinary actions in accordance with court requirements and agency policies and procedures
  • Preparing and maintaining comprehensive and accurate case records, both electronic and hard file

 

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of case management, current social, economic, and health programs appropriate for the population served, current social and economic issues/trends, human Behavior and available community resources. Skilled in sound judgment and reasoning, excellent interpersonal skills, oral/written communication including presenting, interviewing, collaboration, strong customer service orientation, time management, organization, and prioritization and problem solving. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, gathering and assessing information, evaluating data, making and implementing case decisions, working with diverse populations, including hard-to-serve and low income, managing confidential/sensitive data with high degree of confidentiality and coordinating and facilitating programs.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate's degree in human services, social services, or related field
  • Bachelor's degree in human services or social services preferred
  • Three (3) years of human services or social casework paraprofessional experience
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification


LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Some assignments may require a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record or a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license within 30 days of hire.

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk; hear; see; use hands, wrist, or fingers in a repetitive motion; and finger (pick, pinch, type or otherwise work primarily with fingers). The employee is occasionally required to walk; stand; reach extending hands and arms in any direction; lift; and push or pull. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be sedentary, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
