Description

 

The City of Richmond Department of Justice Services is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Social Casework Coordinator (case manager) within the Richmond Day Reporting Center (RDRC). The RDRC is a community-based program supporting individuals impacted by the criminal legal system through preventative services, personal development, and recovery-centered programming. Our mission is to promote safety and wellness by providing pathways to healing, accountability, and connection to vital resources.

Social Casework Coordinators (Case Managers) are essential to this work, serving as direct service providers, facilitators, and advocates. They play a key role in empowering participants to build safer and healthier lives by addressing individual needs, coordinating care, and supporting progress through restorative, trauma-informed, and evidence-based practices. Through their efforts, Case Managers help reduce recidivism by promoting long-term behavior change, supporting accountability, and empowering individuals to successfully reintegrate into the community.

 

Duties include but are not limited to

 

  • Conduct risk and needs assessments to inform individualized service planning
  • Collaborate with participants to develop person-centered behavior change plans
  • Facilitate cognitive behavioral and educational programming, including anger management, communication skills, decision making, grief, healthy relationships/interpersonal violence, trauma-informed and wellness.
  • Provide ongoing case management, including regular check-ins, referrals, and connection to community-based resources (e.g., housing, employment, behavioral health)
  • Document all services, referrals, and progress in the electronic case management system
  • Administer drug/alcohol screenings as needed in a trauma-informed and non-punitive manner
  • Prepare reports for court and communicate participant progress
  • Apply harm reduction strategies and utilize restorative responses to non-compliance
  • Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive space for all participants

 

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses

 

Minimum Training and Experience

  • Associate’s degree in human services, social work, criminal justice, or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of three years of experience providing direct services in a human services or behavioral health setting
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed and person-centered approaches
  • Knowledge of harm reduction principles and restorative justice practices
  • Familiarity with evidence-based programming such as MRT, EPICS, or similar models
  • Skilled in motivational interviewing, crisis response, group facilitation, and community resource navigation
  • Effective communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team setting
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and serving marginalized populations with dignity

Certifications

  • The selected candidate must be eligible and successfully obtain required VCIN certification.

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk; hear; see; use hands, wrist, or fingers in a repetitive motion; and finger (pick, pinch, type or otherwise work primarily with fingers). The employee is occasionally required to walk; stand; reach extending hands and arms in any direction; lift; and push or pull. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be sedentary, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
