The Spanish Language Teacher will plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic and personal potential. This specialty teacher collaborates with the class teacher to nurture the class community of students, parents, and colleagues.


Essential Functions:

  • Researches the curriculum and methodologies for the grade level being taught.
  • Prepares appropriate activities to effectively instruct the class.
  • Creates the year's curriculum and develops lesson plans.
  • Prepares and presents lessons inspired by and expressive of Waldorf pedagogy.
  • Engages students in appropriate intellectual, artistic, practical, and social activities.
  • Works with the class teacher and other specialty teachers to nurture the class community of students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Maintains positive relationships with parents and responds to all parent concerns.
  • Maintains positive, professional relationships with colleagues and responds to all collegial concerns.
  • Schedules and participates in parent conferences, as necessary.
  • Attends parent evenings when requested by class or EC teacher.
  • Supports teachers and administration by performing functions not directly related to their teaching (see position type).
  • Works with colleagues in faculty and section meetings.
  • Works with parents and volunteers in committee meetings, task forces, and on projects.
  • Meets with parents at parent-teacher conferences as requested.
  • Submits end-of-year reports.
  • Submits quarterly and semester reports/grades (grades 6 [after midyear], 7 & 8).
  • Writes student recommendations, as needed.
  • Reviews and assesses the effectiveness of work with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Works with mentor at least bi-weekly (Teachers in their first year of teaching meet weekly with an advisor for the 1st three years of teaching their subject).
  • Engages in on-going professional and personal growth.
  • 30-hour employees attend and participate in Open Houses, Fall Fest, Auction, May Faire, all-school work days, and all-school festivals and other all-school events.
  • Part-time employees attend and participate in Open Houses, all-school work days, and all-school events as determined by the Specialty Coordinator.
  • Prepares substitution plans for on-going classes.

Experience:

  • Experience and education (to be determined by the hiring committee).
  • Waldorf teaching experience.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • The hourly rate for this regular, part-time, exempt position is $31,500 to $50,250 per year, depending on exact experience and qualifications.
  • This is a 10-month school year position beginning on or around August 16, 2023, and expected to end on or around June 20, 2024.
  • RWS offers the following benefits to part-time staff:
  • 75% Tuition remission for dependent children enrolled at RWS.
  • 60 hours Paid Time Off (PTO) per year.
  • Paid Holidays & School Breaks during the active payroll calendar only. Paid based on the regular schedule for that day.
  • Free Aftercare for dependent children during scheduled work hours (children must also be enrolled in a school program).
