The City of Richmond Office of Sustainability is currently seeking a Sustainability Manager to help lead the City's sustainability programs and strategically develop, plan, and implement City and community-wide initiatives that support equitable sustainability and resilience priorities, as identified in RVAgreen 2050. Such initiatives are implemented with the goals of improving quality of life for residents, achieving a healthier environment, and enhancing economic and job creation opportunities.
The successful candidate will collaborate with internal and external stakeholder to develop resources and partnerships for sustainability programs. The incumbent supervises professional and support staff and will conduct performance evaluations, coordinate training, and will implement departmental hiring and disciplinary procedures in accordance with City policies. The incumbent reports to the Director, Office of Sustainability.
Duties Include
- Plans, develops, implements, and directly manages City sustainability programs and projects. Monitors and reports progress of major activities through periodic conferences and meetings.
- Topics may include clean energy, waste reduction, environmental quality, climate justice, food justice, and others.
- 50% Supervises staff and administers sustainability budget.
- 30% Secures funding and resources for programs.
- Coordinates with City departments and outside agencies to develop new sustainability programs and measure progress.
- 10% Conducts policy analysis, and advocates for new policies.

- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, public administration, urban planning, or related field
- Master's degree is preferred 4 years of professional experience within a local government organization in areas involving policy analysis, program management, environmental planning, etc.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
- Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
