The City of Richmond Department of Information Technology is seeking qualified candidates for the role of IT Application, Management, and Security Specialist. This position plays a crucial role in the department and encompasses responsibilities related to network engineering, systems operations administration, and security.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide advanced work as network engineers, systems engineers, or systems operations administrators.
- Act as designated subject matter experts.
- Perform project planning and support for multiple projects simultaneously.
- Advise customers on equipment purchases, coordinate with vendors, and implement services at new locations.
- Use monitoring and capacity planning tools to ensure network and system health.
- Security engineering responsibilities include monitoring and hunting for threats, analyzing risks and vulnerabilities, supporting offensive and defensive tools, and conducting compliance audits.
- May serve as lead workers, assigning work, and monitoring completion.
- Supervise paraprofessional and support level staff, including conducting performance evaluations and coordinating training.

Qualifications, Special Certifications, and Licenses:
- Considerable knowledge in areas such as Ethernet, Cisco network, wireless network, IT architecture, telephony knowledge, and IT infrastructure library.
- Change management expertise.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, electronic databases, and related software applications.
- Familiarity with various technologies in areas of focus (Anti-Virus, Vulnerability Management, etc.).
- Project management skills.
Demonstrated Skills:
- Administering various programs and applications.
- Advising customers on areas of focus.
- Analyzing, planning, installing, testing, tracking, implementing, documenting, fixing, and tuning software and hardware systems.
- Communicating with and supporting various internal and external departments.
- Designing, configuring, deploying, troubleshooting, administering, and maintaining systems and devices.
- Determining security requests' viability.
- Diagnosing, researching, and resolving issues.
- Ensuring accurate project and work documentation and processes.
- Patching and upgrading systems and software.
- Possessing strong scripting/automation skills such as Power Shell and Python.
- Processing purchase requests and resolving work orders, network outages, and network switch port moves.
Minimum Training and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
- Two years of journey-level professional systems and network engineering experience.
- Equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
