Job Opening: Technology Specialist


The City of Richmond's Department of Information Technology is seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of Technology Specialist. This position involves providing technical support and troubleshooting for network, desktop, and systems hardware and software.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnosing and addressing internal inquiries related to personal computer and system maintenance.
  • Installing, configuring, and upgrading computer hardware and software.
  • Offering end-user software troubleshooting and support.
  • Applying advanced diagnostic techniques to identify and resolve problems.

Additional Details:


The position demands technical expertise along with people leadership and service delivery management skills.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Providing 24x7 technical support and services for the City of Richmond, including executives and high-profile clients.
  • Demonstrating strong business acumen and customer service skills to effectively support the IT team.
  • Leveraging team networks and vendor relationships to ensure timely solutions within SLA limits.
  • Managing and maintaining computer hardware and overseeing IT asset management.

Qualifications and Skills:


Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in computer science or related field.
  • Two years of end-user support and network equipment (if the focus area is end-user support).
  • Two years of telecommunications maintenance (if the focus area is telecommunications support).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and performance analysis skills.
  • Technical writing skills and ITIL/Service Management experience.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise-level Microsoft manageability technologies.

Special Requirements:

  • Some assignments may require a valid Driver's License.
