General Description:

The Title IX Investigator is responsible for conducting prompt, thorough, impartial, and equitable investigations of complaints alleging sex-based discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and retaliation in accordance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, applicable federal and state laws, and institutional policies. The Investigator plays a critical role in ensuring a safe, inclusive, and compliant educational environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct neutral, trauma-informed investigations of Title IX and related discrimination complaints involving students, employees, and third parties
  • Plan and execute investigations, including:
    • Interviewing complainants, respondents, and witnesses
    • Collecting, reviewing, and analyzing documentary, digital, and physical evidence
  • Prepare clear, objective, and well-supported investigative reports that summarize evidence, assess credibility, and apply relevant policies and standards of evidence
  • Maintain accurate, confidential case files and documentation in compliance with FERPA, Title IX regulations, and institutional requirements
  • Apply current Title IX regulations, institutional policies, and procedural requirements consistently and fairly
  • Collaborate with the Director, School Administrators, and other school staff as appropriate
  • Participate in hearings or resolution processes as required, including providing testimony or clarification regarding investigative findings
  • Ensure investigations are completed within established timelines
  • Implement and uphold trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and equitable investigative practices
  • Participate in ongoing training related to Title IX, investigations, equity, and compliance
  • Assist with policy development, climate assessments, and prevention initiatives as assigned
  • Collaborate, through the Director, with legal counsel and other designated resources as needed. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, education, social sciences, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience conducting investigations, interviews, or fact-finding processes particularly as it relates to youth and adolescents sex based incidents
  • Knowledge of Title IX regulations and related federal and state laws
  • Strong analytical, writing, and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain neutrality, confidentiality, and professionalism in sensitive matters
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines
  • Possession of a valid Virginia driver’s license 
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Bilingual fluency/Spanish 
    • Prior experience as a Title IX investigator, civil rights investigator, HR investigator, or similar role 
    • Formal training in trauma-informed interviewing or investigations
    • Experience working in K–12 or higher education environments
    • Familiarity with FERPA
