WNRN is a listener supported, independent, non-commercial radio station. This exciting new opportunity is the result of expansion of our broadcast network which will extend from Harrisonburg to Hampton Roads. Under the supervision of the Development Director, this role will assist in securing underwriting and sponsorship of radio programming, WNRN events, and initiatives across multimedia platforms. This new position will ensure messages are consistent with public broadcasting industry standards and WNRN’s branding.


Essential Functions

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, close, and maintain new and renewing community business partners including cash and trade accounts for all forms of program distribution, including on-air, online, streaming, podcasts, events.
  • Contact clients through direct face-to-face contact, sustained relationships, and cold calling throughout the business community.
  • Achieve sales goals as set by the Director of Development.
  • Negotiate underwriting and marketing packages, pricing, terms, and on-air (radio) copy that conforms to FCC regulations.
  • Engage the community at large; attend occasional community meetings or other functions as appropriate to support client cultivation and stewardship.
  • Maintain accurate files for all contacts.
  • Assist with other organizational activities as directed.

    Required Qualifications
    • Prior sales, fundraising and/or nonprofit experience required. 
    • Highly motivated and able to develop new client relationships through personal initiative, networking and referrals from existing clients 
    • Time and priority management 
    • Proficiency with standard office productivity software or willingness to learn 
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both in-person and online, with the ability to write and present in a professional and motivating manner 
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other staff members 
    • Experience with public media or public radio sales preferred. 
    • Must appreciate great music, enjoy the experience of local events, and embrace the culture of community.
