This position will be responsible for the development and implementation of the City’s Urban Forest Masterplan aide in the updating of the City’s Municipal Tree Policy, along with the creation and updating of standard operating procedures for the division. A primary focus of the position will be public engagement. Which will entail serving on committees, community groups, representing the city at public meetings, participating and work with advocacy groups in order to align public interest with the goals and priorities of the City’s Urban Forestry Division. Provides oversight of the City’s Urban Forestry Commission and is responsible for necessary public reporting related to the Urban Forest Master Plan.


Duties

  • Conducts municipal tree survey and inventory
  • Researches and maintains emerging urban forestry and related policies
  • Provides arboriculture, forestry and landscape consultation on development and CIP projects
  • Reviews and evaluates permits, plans, and plans of development
  • Performs tree assessments
  • Researches and identifies program opportunities, recruits volunteers, identifies resources, and conducts public relations outreach with community groups Consults on specifications for supplies, services, materials and equipment
  • Conducts research, analyzes data and compiles statistical information into reports 
  • Serves on committees
  • Consults in the development of standard operating procedures
  • Leads the development and implementation of the Urban Forest Master Plan 
 
Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses
  • BA in urban forestry, agriculture, horticulture, botany or a related area and 6 years related experience
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
