The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities seeks qualified candidates to fill a Utilities Field Pipeline Technician position within the Wastewater Division. The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe and proper operation of the City of Richmond Sanitary and Combined Sewer infrastructure through routine maintenance and repairs.
Responsibilities:
- Installing sanitary and combined sewer piping and fittings
- Driving and operating small equipment and machinery
- Performing routine maintenance inspections of piping systems
- Responding to work orders
- Assembling tools, materials, and equipment for daily work assignments
- Transporting personnel to and from work sites
Qualifications - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of sewer/wastewater pipeline replacement and repair
- Experience in confined spaces and plumbing
- Proficiency in pipefitting, Hazmat/PPE protection equipment, safety procedures, and industry Standard Operating Practices (SOP’s)
- Proficient in operating machinery and hand tools
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Capable of consulting with internal and external departments/agencies
- Dedicated to providing excellent customer service
- Ability to follow proper safety and standard operating procedures
- Effective task prioritization and multitasking abilities
- Efficient time management skills
Minimum Training and Experience:
- High School diploma, GED, or specialized vocational training
- One year of related experience
- An equivalent combination of training and experience approved by the department
Licensing, Certifications, and Special Requirements:
- Requires a Class B Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of hire
Preferred Training and Experience:
- One year of experience working in the utilities/plumbing fields
